Animal Story Time

Animals!

I thought I would add a little something to my story time this month. Sometimes with little little ones- ages 18month or so.. it is hard to keep them sitting still during a story time. I put out a puzzle- empty and told the children they were going to "help" me do the puzzle. That we would do the puzzle together.

The 18 month olds were still a bit "here and there" but the close to 3 year olds in the group really were kept focused as they took turns pulling a puzzle piece out of the bag. I would remind them- I was looking for someone sitting and listening and it really helped keep order during our story time!

This is a great puzzle- a variety of animals makes for a variety of books.

Book Club (grades 1-3)

If you've never picked up a Geronimo Stilton book- you are in for a colorful treat. These books are illustrated with comical and colorful pictures. The words themselves are often in bright colors and different fonts. My 8 year old asked to kick-off his book club year with this book. ( We read some Halloween themed Stilton books last year.) So this month- I'm letting the boys pick their own book. And we'll have a book club / book chat where they share the adventure that happened in their book. Look for more ideas of actual book club activities on our Book Club outline page.

Literary Circle Pick

Written from the popular author of Because of Winn Dixie- this is a great, SHORT story about a boy learning to heal from heartache. The summary: "Walking through the misty Florida woods one morning, young Rob Horton discovers a large and very real tiger in a cage. ON the same extraordinary day, he meets Sistine Bailey, and begins to understand that some things- like memories, and heartache, and tigers - can't be locked up forever. We've got some GREAT plans for book club! Check it out on our FREE Book club Outlines page.
