Testimonials

"My son was in Third Grade when he first started attending Boyz Book club. At the time he was reading at a First Grade level. That first year- he caught up to his grade level and by the end of the school year he was reading at a 4.2 reading level! The first few months my son didn't even read the book. He just liked going to the parties. It wasn't until I threatened- "You can't go to Book Club unless you read the book."- that he really started trying to read. I couldn't believe the improvement he made in just one school year! I know Boyz Book Club is what made the difference." Anjeny S.

" I can't believe the progress my son has made since starting a Book Club for him four years ago. His First Grade teacher recommended he repeat First Grade because he was struggling with reading and not ready to move on. As parents- we decided to continue ahead to Second grade but make reading a family priority. We started his book club as a reward and motivation. FOUR years later, this same son, is being praised by his teacher for being in the HIGHEST reading level in the school (8.6) and he's only in Fifth Grade! I know it is because of Boyz Book Club." Go beyond the

traditional book club

and start a

Boys book club!

Boys book clubs embrace the energy

and action-oriented enthusiasm of boys

 to encourage them to read!

According to a national survey conducted by the Young Adult Library Services Association in 2001boys listed their top obstacles to reading; 39% responded it was boring/no fun, 29% said they had no time or were too busy, 11% said they would rather do something else, 8% said they couldn’t get into the stories, 4% admitted they weren’t good at it.

We offer Book Club Outlines & Literary Circle Outlines

 for book club meetings

that address these specific challenges for boys.

 “Boring/ no fun”

Our outlines are activity packed with fun being the focus.

“No time and would rather be doing something else” -

Our book clubs reward boys who put the time into reading the book with our Incentive Games.

(One example of an “incentive game” is every question

answered right- the boy earns a water balloon for the upcoming water balloon fight!)

“Couldn’t get into the stories”

Often boys who are slow readers, have limited vocabulary, have poor fluency, or have shorter attention spans struggle to get into the story. We’ve found if these boys can watch the movie first, even the first 20 minutes- they become connected to characters, they relate to the setting and situations and are more motivated to read the book!

“They aren’t good at it”

We offer ideas and suggestions of how parents can help their son read.

The more he reads the better reader he will become!

You'll also find Survival tips throughout this site for hosting a book club for boys. One example is to start your meeting with an ENERGY ACTIVITY! The boys will come- with a burst of energy. If you let the boys release this energy first, while you wait for all members to arrive, your discussion will be more successful later!
